Trees for Cities

Last week Trees for Cities and volunteers from Hainault Peace Farm visited Y1 classes to plant some apple trees.
The children planted the trees and decoratd




e them with their own leaves.
"I wonder how long it will take until we see leaves on the trees?"
"I wonder how long it will be until we can taste the apple!?"

Y1W Class Assembly

Last week Y1W performed fot their families in their class assembly.
They began withe an Olympic dance, then read some of their poetry and finished with some songs.

Our visit to Hainault Forest Country Park

On Tuesday we took the 247 bus to Hainault Forest Country Park as part of theme Down Our Street to investigate our local environnment.
We explored the hills, plains, forest and lake as well as visiting the farm to see the animals.
Our favourites were sheep, donkeys, pigs and rabbits.

Visit to Hainault library



On Tuesday 29th November we visited Hainault Library.
We read stories to each other and looked at some non fiction.
Mrs Barratt told us about how the books were ordered alphabetically and ten she read us some stoires.
It was a great local trip and hopefully more children will be encouraged to become members!1

Visit to Manford Way







On Tuesday we visited Manford Way shops to buy a selection of fresh fruit.










We have been learning about healthy food and tomorow we are going to describe the fruit and then eat it!!

Diwali













On Thursday the whole of KS1 celebrated the Hindu and Sikh festival of Diwali.







We listened to the story of Diwali, did some dancing and games as well as talking to some children about their own experiences of Diwali.







"We have lots of lights in our houses, " said Amrit.







"We wear beautifula nd colourful clothes," said Yash.







"I love the fireworks best," said Jeevan.

Visit to the Drama Centre













On Wednesday we visited the Drama Centre in Woodford.







We acted out the story of The Big Bad Wolf and the Three Little Pigs.







Johnny encouraged us to use our bodies and our voices to become the characters in the drama.







"It was really good, " said Caitlin.







"I loved pretending to be the Wolf!!" said Ryan.

A visit to Valentines Mansion













On Tuesday we travelled by public transport to visit Valentines Mansion.














It is a very old building and the whole house has been restored to its former glory!!














The children explored the different rooms and had plenty of opportunity to handle artifacts and














dress up!!

International Week

During International Week we had some stories from differnt countries.
Gabriele's Mum read us a story in Italian and Gabriele taught us how to count to 10 in Italian.
Mrs. Forson comes from Ghana and read us a story.
Mrs. Gupta read us a story in Hindi and Kuhu helped her.
Mrs Raval read us  astory in Gujurati.

Visit from Epping Forest Museum









On Thursday we had a History workshop from Katherine.






She brought lots of artefacts that would have been found in the home 100 years ago.






She asked lots of questions to determine what each artefact might have been used for.

Clay tile workshop



On Wednesday we had a clay workshop with Mel, an artist from a senior school.
We designed our portraits and decorated them with clay.
Mel is going to fire the tiles in a big kiln and put glaze on them
The whole school will make one and, next year, we will display them all for everyone to see.

Arts week Story telling from Africa







Jambo!!





During Arts week we had an African storyteller who came from Kenya.





She told us a story about how leopard got his spots.





We did some dancing and played on an African drum.

Toys in the past




On Monday 13th June, Rose came in to answer our questions about her life in the past and the toys she had when she was a child.
The children found out about her childhood in Ireland and the kinds of games and toys she played with.

Visit to Bethnal Green Toy Museum




On Wednesday 11th May We travelled on London Underground to visit Bethnal Green Toy Museum.
We saw lots of toys from the past and we were able to play withe some. The rocking horse was one of the most popular!!

Heritage Day













On Wednesday 27th April John Bramston celebrated English Heritage Day.

In KS1 we rotated several activities all designed to demonstrate our English Heritage.

These included:-


  • playing cricket

  • making cucmber and jam sandwiches

  • English Country Dancing

  • making the Union Jack

  • playing the Beetle game

  • listening to storie about St. George-the patron saint of England

  • In the afternoon we joined with the rest of the school for a huge picnic on the field.

Celebrating Passover




Rebecca and Harrison fro Y3 came to talk to us about the jewish festival of Passover.

They showed us some important artefacts and we all shared some Matzoh bread.
